Engine of the Su-27 fighter

On display
The key feature of the AL-31F is stall tolerance: the engine keeps running at angles of attack where the intake receives sharply angled flow. That is what let the Su-27 perform the Cobra without compressor surge. The design uses a three-shaft layout with a wide regulation range, titanium fan blades and a cooled turbine. Thrust-vectoring versions were later developed from it. On display is an engine with the afterburner duct and nozzle flaps opened; beside it a stand with a sectioned turbine blade.
