An exhibition on the Soviet lunar rover programme opens in the space hall in six weeks.
The museum announces the opening of the exhibition "Lunokhods: Wheels on Another Planet". The display will include the ground twin of Lunokhod-1, the return stage of Luna-16, fragments of the mesh wheels and material from the archive of the Deep Space Communications Centre.
The centrepiece is a reconstruction of the control crew's workstation: the console, screen and joystick from which the vehicle was driven from Simferopol. Visitors will be able to drive a model rover across a mock proving ground with the same signal delay the real crew worked under.
The exhibition will occupy the eastern part of the space hall. Entry is by museum ticket with no additional charge. Guided tours of the exhibition will run twice a day.
The detailed programme of accompanying lectures will appear on the site two weeks before the opening.
